The National Memorial Day Concert will return as a live presentation on May 29, with plans including a tribute to General Colin Powell and commemorations of Gold Star families and to those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The 90-minute broadcast once again will be hosted by Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise and will once again feature a lineup of musical performances along with tribute segments. It will air on PBS and stream on YouTube starting at 8 PM ET. Dennis Haysbert will be featured in the tribute to Powell, who had regularly spoken at previous concerts. Powell, the former Secretary of State and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died last year. Gil Birmingham will appear in Generations of Service, a tribute to the 58,000 lives lost in the Vietnam war and those who served during that era. Afghan Female TV Anchors ‘Forced’ To Cover Their Face After Taliban Diktat
Days after the Taliban's latest order, female TV anchors in Afghanistan went on-air Sunday with their faces covered. As per HT report, on Saturday, many news anchors had reportedly refused the diktat to conceal their appearance on TV, but their employers were under pressure. As per the report, women from TOLO news, Ariana Television, Shamshad TV and 1TV and other popular channels wore hijabs and face-covering veils, presented and reported on news bulletins and other programmes. NBA’s Javaris Crittenton — Guilty In Shooting Death … 23 Years In Prison
Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton pled guilty to manslaughter in the 2011 shooting death of a 22-year-old mother of 4 ... and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. As we previously reported, Crittenton -- a 1st round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft -- was initially charged with murder for killing Julian Jones in a drive-by shooting in Atlanta. But Crittenton struck a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to the lesser voluntary manslaughter with a weapon charge and aggravated assault with a firearm. In exchange, prosecutors dropped the murder charge and Crittenton got 23 years in the clink. During the hearing, Javaris apologized for the killing -- started to cry -- and said it was all a terrible mistake. FBI Joins the Hunt for Javaris Crittenton
The FBI has joined the search for ex-NBA player Javaris Crittenton -- who is wanted for murder in the shooting death of a 22-year-old woman. The feds have announced they are working with police in Atlanta -- where Jullian Jones was shot and killed on August 19. Cops believe Crittenton was not aiming at Jones -- but rather someone else in the area who may have robbed the former basketball player back in April. It's unclear if officials have an idea where Javaris may be hiding out -- and the FBI is not releasing any further information.
