Sound Editors Nominate ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Sound Of Metal’, ‘Tenet’ & Others For Golden Reel Awards – Full List

The Motion Picture Sound Editors  are out with nominations for the 68th annual Golden Reel Awards , which recognize sound artists in 22 categories spanning film, TV, toons, computer entertainment and student productions. Winners will be announced during an international virtual trophy ceremony on Sunday, April 16. The Golden Reels also will honor Mad Max franchise director George Miller with the 2021 MPSE Filmmaker Award. “We’re very excited about this year’s MPSE Golden Reel Awards,” MPSE president Mark Lanza said. “It will feature a dynamic, virtual format that will be great fun and allow people from around the world to participate. We will have presenters from every part of the globe along with many other surprises. Most importantly, this will be an opportunity to celebrate the great sound work that has been done over the past year. Warner Bros’ ‘Tom & Jerry’ Opening Higher In Monday Actuals; Still Second-Best Debut During Pandemic – Update

Updated Monday AM: Warner Bros is reporting this morning that Tim Story’s Tom & Jerry didn’t do $13.7M for the weekend, rather $14.1M . That’s a very good indication that an upbeat vibe is developing among moviegoer confidence as this pandemic slowly starts to draw its curtains. Rival studio estimates as of yesterday AM had Tom & Jerry at $13.55M for the weekend. Essentially, the Chris DeFaria animation hybrid production posted a better Sunday than expected with $4.035M. Further broken down, Tom & Jerry did $4M on Friday, and $6.1M on Saturday, +53% from Friday at 2,475 venues. A very solid start for a family film in a nation where just under 50% of all 5,8K U.S. and Canada theaters are open. ‘Calamity Jane’ Director Rémi Chayé On Crafting Vibrant Portrait Of A “Singular” American Legend’s Childhood

With Calamity Jane , writer/director Rémi Chayé explored the origin story of the legendary American frontierswoman of the same name, digging into her childhood and the ways in which she defied the gender conventions of her time. Produced by Maybe Movies , the French-language animated adventure picks up with the young Martha Jane Cannary in 1863, as she’s traveling with her family up to Oregon. Along the way, her father is badly injured, and conflict emerges when she strives to assume responsibility of her caravan. Winning the Annecy International Animated Film Festival’s Cristal Award for Best Feature last June, the Oscar contender has been praised for its uniquely vibrant, painterly style. ‘Fabian — Going to the Dogs’: Film Review | Berlin 2021

Tom Schilling, Albrecht Schuch and Saskia Rosendahl play young friends in Berlin between the wars in Dominik Graf’s dramatic coming-of-ager. Three bright, talented young people in their 20s struggle to find their place in a rotten society, scarred by Germany’s defeat in World War I and menaced by the rising tide of Nazism, in Fabian — Going to the Dogs ( Fabian oder Der Gang vor die Hunde. ) This second screen adaptation of Erich Kastner’s now classic 1931 novel (the first was directed by Wolf Gremm in 1980) marks a stylistically daring attempt to capture the zeitgeist by director Dominik Graf, who returns to Berlin competition where his historical romance Beloved Sisters bowed in 2014. Fabian 's Fassbinder redux atmosphere first attracts and then tires, but should add value in German-speaking markets.
