The National Association of Television Program Executives ( NATPE ) is moving its flagship January event from its long-time home in Miami 180 miles across the water to a new base in Nassau in the Bahamas . The plan, which many international execs have been aware of for several months, takes NATPE to the Bahamas Mar Resort and Conference Center from next year’s event, which takes place on January 17-19. This marks the first time NATPE will not take place on American soil. The Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami has been NATPE’s home since 2011, though the previous two editions have been held online due to the Covid pandemic. Prior to that it was held in Las Vegas and further back in cities such as New Orleans, LA, New York, Houston and San Francisco. It’s Quinta Brunson’s World and We’re All Just Laughing in It
Quinta Brunson — creator, executive producer, and star of the hit comedy Abbott Elementary — could moonlight as a tour guide. She meets me at the Warner Bros. Television building on a crisp day in April. The building, tucked behind bushes and an open-air set of a quaint city street, is boxy and drab, one of the least magnificent structures I see on the massive lot. And yet Brunson has a way of showing its hidden magic. Flanked by a publicist and a studio rep, we load into a golf cart, where Brunson leads me on a tour of the WB campus — it also just happens to be a tour of one of the most exciting young careers in comedy. In fact, while we chat in front of an outdoor set of a white church used in Gilmore Girls and Pretty Little Liars , an eager fan on a stretch cart packed with visitors on a guided tour loudly points her out. In 2018, she was cast as a lead in a CW series called The End of the World As We Know It after auditioning in this very building. The show never … [Read more...] about It’s Quinta Brunson’s World and We’re All Just Laughing in It

Woody Allen Plans To Make “One Or Two More” Films, But “The Thrill Is Gone” Due To Decline Of Movie Theaters
In a conversation with Alec Baldwin livestreamed on Instagram, Woody Allen said he plans to direct “one or two more” films, but also said “the thrill is gone” because of the decline of the theatrical experience. Without revealing details about the project, Allen said he will direct a film that will shoot in Paris in the late-summer or early fall. His last film was Rifkin’s Festival , which grossed just $2.3 million, reaching the U.S. in a limited release earlier this year but making little impact. MPI Media Group handled that film, stepping in for Amazon Studios, which yanked its $80 million distribution deal with Allen in 2019. The filmmaker has seen his career options narrow in recent years amid increased scrutiny around allegations of sexual abuse. Book publisher Hachette also canceled publication of his memoir in 2020. Even before Covid, Allen said, the challenging environment for traditional theatrical releases was starting to weigh on him. “When I started, … [Read more...] about Woody Allen Plans To Make “One Or Two More” Films, But “The Thrill Is Gone” Due To Decline Of Movie Theaters

Blue States Can’t Fix What the Supreme Court Broke
Colorado is only one of three states that allows abortion at any phase of pregnancy. It borders five states where the fate of abortion access remains uncertain, if not outright banned. In anticipation of the reversal of Roe v. Wade , the Colorado legislature enshrined the right to abortion access in its laws back in April. “State leadership matters more than ever,” Gov. Jared Polis (D) said when the Supreme Court overturned nearly 50 years of federal abortion rights with its decision in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health on Friday. “We will not retreat to an archaic era when the powerful few controlled the freedoms over our bodies.” But Colorado also prohibits using any state healthcare dollars from paying for abortions, meaning Medicaid recipients and state employees can’t use their coverage to access services. It also can’t adjust the state budget without a ballot referendum, complicating any efforts to set aside funding for the expected deluge of out-of-state abortion … [Read more...] about Blue States Can’t Fix What the Supreme Court Broke

Billie Eilish appeared on The Late Late Show following her headlining set at Glastonbury . During an interview with host James Corden, Eilish recalled how much things have changed since she first began performing in the U.K. In the interview, Eilish recounted one of her early London concerts, where a fan waited for her outside. “There was this girl standing outside and she was with her mom and I was like, ‘What are they doing here? Who would do that?’ Eilish recalled. “I pulled up and she kind of looked at the car funny and I remember thinking, ‘That’s weird. Who is that? Why would there be somebody standing there?’ And I opened the door and she looked at me and she looked so happy and surprised.” The singer added, “She was the first person to ever stand in the line to meet me ever in my life. And I gave her the biggest hug and I took a picture with her and I just held her and she was so sweet. It was really magical.” During her early days of performing, Eilish said she … [Read more...] about Billie Eilish Reflects on Just How Much Her Career Has Changed After Historic Glastonbury Performance on ‘Corden’
Selena Gomez Calls on Men in Hollywood to ‘Stand Up’ Following Roe v. Wade Decision
At the Season Two premiere for Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, Selena Gomez called on men in Hollywood to use their platform to speak out about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. “It’s about voting,” Gomez told Variety on the red carpet. “It’s about getting men — men needing to stand up and also speak against this issue.” She was joined for the interview by her co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, though the question of Hollywood’s role in fighting to protect abortion access was fielded directly to her. “It’s also the amount of women that are hurting,” Gomez added. “I’m just not happy and I hope that we can do everything in our power to do something to change that.” The Supreme Court on Friday ruled 6-3 that states can restrict or outright ban abortion at any point during a pregnancy, overturning the landmark 1973 decision that enshrined abortion protections in federal law, along with a subsequent decision that affirmed those protections in … [Read more...] about Selena Gomez Calls on Men in Hollywood to ‘Stand Up’ Following Roe v.
