I've enjoyed the hell out of the Ip Man film franchise. Some of the films are better than others, but I have enjoyed the stories that they've told about the legendary martial artist who trained Bruce Lee. Ip Man 4 is said to follow Bruce Lee to the United States with hopes of opening his own martial arts school. This turns out to be challenging when he offends the locals. It's in this setting that Ip Man (Donnie Yen), comes to Lee’s aid, and "earns the locals’ respect and helps lay the foundations of kung fu in America." According to Chinese entertainment outlet JayneStars, the film’s biggest highlight is a fight scene in which we see Yen take on Jackie Chan, who plays "a respected Big Brother in Chinatown." That alone is enough to get me excited about seeing this movie! I have no doubt the fight scene between these characters is going to be badass. Ip Man 4 is being directed by Wilson Yip, and it also stars Scott Akins and Vanness Wu. What do you all think about … [Read more...] about Donnie Yen Will Fight Jackie Chan in IP MAN 4!

WWE champion and rising film star John Cena flew into the Shanghai International Film Festival to speak alongside screen legend Jackie Chan about their upcoming action-thriller-comedy Project X. The big budget Hong Kong–China co-production led by Chan is entirely Chinese funded, will be filmed all in China using local crews, but with Cena as co-star and Hollywood’s Scott Waugh (Act of Valor, Need for Speed) directing from a script by Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco, Erased, The Titan). “The highlight of this movie is really simple: we have one of the greatest legends of action working with a talented newcomer in the action genre,” says Waugh. “It’s possibly one of greatest pairings… in terms of how the movie is stylized, it will hopefully be another level — our action will be extremely exciting.” Set in the Middle East, the plot follows a retired Chinese military man and now private security contractor (Chan) who is sent to rescue … [Read more...] about Shanghai: Jackie Chan, John Cena Talk Action Collaboration on ‘Project X’

x I’ve just watched the trailer for Jackie Chan’s new film Bleeding Steel, which appears to be about Chan rescuing his daughter after she’s been kidnapped by a borg from Star Trek that lives in a Star Destroyer. His daughter also appears to have some kind of mechanical heart. At one point, there’s even a big fight on top of the Sydney Opera House. A bunch of stuff blows up, too, and I’m not quite sure what it all means. What I do know is that even at 64 years of age and after multiple injuries and broken bones, Jackie Chan has still got the goods. Directed by Leo Zhang, Lionsgate is describing the project as “reminiscent of 80s techno-sci-fi thrillers” – which certainly explains the very retro henchmen in biker helmets with generically sci-fi stuff glued onto the sides. The whole thing looks a bit like a plot described by an excited six-year-old – and frankly any film featuring an experimental mechanical heart has my … [Read more...] about Jackie Chan’s New Movie Bleeding Steel Looks Completely Insane
