Discovery Wednesday unveiled a long-term partnership with Saudi telecom’s group’s digital entertainment arm Intigral to provide broadcast and subscription-video-on-demand content to its flagship OTT service, Jawwy TV. The deal gives Jawwy TV subscribers to access to select Discovery content in a Discovery+ branded area on Jawwy. New and existing Jawwy TV subscribers who sign up will be offered 12 months of Discovery+ content on Intigral. Jawwy TV subscribers will also receive seven of Discovery’s international linear channels: Discovery Channel, Fatafeat, TLC, Discovery Family, Animal Planet, Discovery Science and Investigation Discovery, with more to follow. Once available in region, the parties will collaborate on making the Discovery+ app available to the telecom group’s mobile customer base in KSA, Kuwait and Bahrain. EXCLUSIVE : Nevision , the British producer behind shows including BBC drama Keeping Faith , has signed an exclusive development deal with writer Jeff Murphy to create high-end scripted projects for the global market. Murphy has written on Welsh series including Hinterland and Hidden , while his feature Denmark , starring Rafe Spall, was released in 2019. He will create his own ideas for Nevision, as well as helping develop the firm’s slate of feature films and series. Nevision detailed a number of projects already in the pipeline: The Furies, a supernatural police procedural with elements of horror, which is in the works with Hidden creator and showrunner Mark Andrew. YouTube , which has faced fierce criticism for allowing inappropriate content into its dedicated kids area, is adding new controls designed to help parents monitor viewing by tweens and teens. In a blog post, James Beser, director of product management, kids and family, described the initiative as “a new choice” for parents. It will launch in beta in the next several months. In 2015, the Google-owned video operation created YouTube Kids, which was designed as a protected arena for users under 13. It now attracts more than 35 million viewers a week in 80 countries. Like social media companies, YouTube has always maintained that it is meant to be for viewers aged 13 and up, so its efforts to safeguard young users, whose access exploded with the rise of sophisticated mobile devices, started a decade after the company’s founding. Hank Azaria says he’s “willing and happy” to step aside as the voice of Apu on The Simpsons , or to help transition the character into “something new,” calling it “the right thing to do, to me.” Appearing on Stephen Colbert ’s Late Show , Azaria threw out the possibility of killing off Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, one of 20-30 regular characters he says he’s voiced on the long-running animated Fox series.
