May 31, 2022 by deadline.com

TUESDAY AM UPDATE: The Tom Cruise Paramount / Skydance sequel goes to an even higher stratosphere with a 4-day $160.5M Memorial Day opening record. Global is at a $300M start. Important to note that given the whole thing of rolling the $13.2M Thursday previews of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End into its opening weekend, that movie still has the 3-day over Memorial Day weekend with $127.97M to Top Gun: Maverick ‘s $126.7M . MONDAY AM UPDATE: Paramount/Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick has beaten Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End fair and square for the Memorial Day opening 4-day record (+ previews) at the domestic box office with $156M. While easily Tom Cruise’s best opening of all-time, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is the common denominator of the two largest Memorial Day weekend openings at the domestic box office. At World’s End’s four-day holiday opening of $139.8M was further puffed by Thursday previews which got … [Read more...] about ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Scorches ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End’ For Memorial Day Opening Record With $160M+ – Tuesday AM Update

Crisis Responder: What It’s Like to Be on the Front Lines

August 21, 2020 by www.rollingstone.com

Samantha Greene is a licensed clinical social worker who spent three years working as a crisis intervention specialist at a call center in Dallas. Every interaction with our Mobile Crisis Outreach Team began with a phone call. They came 24 hours a day from school personnel, homeless shelter staff, police and probation officers, family members, or unrelated good Samaritans. Other clients called seeking assistance for themselves, hoping to find relief for chronic insomnia at 3:47 am, obtain a safe place to sleep for the night, or alleviate a seemingly intolerable amount of emotional pain. A handful of headset-donning mental health professionals answered these calls from cubicles in a windowless room inconspicuously housed in a Texas strip center. From there, our small but dedicated team was charged with meeting the crisis needs of our communities in Dallas and its surrounding counties. In May, The horrific homicide of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer ignited an … [Read more...] about Crisis Responder: What It’s Like to Be on the Front Lines

How Mom Rock Became One of America’s Best Young Bands Before Graduating College

June 30, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

When Mom Rock got an invite to perform on the Rock Boat in 2020, they presumed it was a spam email, or a joke. This was a five-day cruise from Miami through the Caribbean headlined by veteran acts like Switchfoot and Sister Hazel, and they were a bunch of college students who’d never played anything bigger than a basement house party. “We were about to write it off before we actually realized it was a real thing,” says Mom Rock singer-guitarist Curtis Heimburger. “We had no idea how we got asked. We eventually just said, ‘Alright, this is amazing fortune and we’re going to run with it.'” That amazing fortune, it turns out, extended beyond just the Rock Boat gig, and it’s well-deserved. Since forming in 2017 at Boston’s Berklee School of Music, drawing inspiration from Weezer, Talking Heads, and Bleachers, Mom Rock have honed an addictive mix of power pop and alt-rock; the first two songs they uploaded to Spotify (“Conversation,” “Grand Romantic Life”) racked up more than a … [Read more...] about How Mom Rock Became One of America’s Best Young Bands Before Graduating College

WWE stardom is (literally) up for grabs this weekend as we gear up for Money in the Bank 2022. As usual, WWE’s Money in the Bank event will see 14 wrestlers (seven men, seven women) from both Raw and SmackDown divisions utilizing ladders to grab the hanging briefcase containing a contract to a championship match. Cody Rhodes was the favorite to win MITB this year, but his pec injury has left the door wide open for the other contenders. Besides men’s and women’s Money in the Bank Ladder matches, viewers will also be treated to a SmackDown Women’s Championship match between title-holder Ronda Rousey and Natalya, as well as a Unified Tag Team Championship, a United States Championship, and a Raw Women’s Championship. In short, it’s a big weekend for wrestling fans. If you’re looking to enjoy the spectacle live, read on to find out how … [Read more...] about WWE Money in the Bank Live Stream: How to Watch the Ladder Matches Online
