17 years after the original Cruel Intentions debuted on the big screen, the story will continue with a new NBC series. The network recently gave a green light for the Cruel Intentions pilot episode, and now Deadline reports that the network is eyeing one of the original movie's stars, Sarah Michelle Gellar, to return. No offer is on the table yet, but the actress has been approached by the network, although it's unclear if she will come back. Shades of Blue creator Adi Hasak is teaming with Red Arrow Studios International and Universal Television to develop a U.S. version of popular German series The Last Cop (Der Letzte Bulle), under his Adi TV Studios banner. Hasak will write the pilot script and serve as executive producer and showrunner. Dean Parisot, who directed last year’s NBC hit Good Girls, will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. Philipp Steffens also executive produces with Red Arrow Studios International’s Jan David Frouman and Shirley Bowers. EXCLUSIVE: Comedy producer Jonathan Stern, whose credits include Childrens Hospital and Wet Hot American Summer, has signed an exclusive overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group. It marks Stern and his Abominable Pictures production company’s first overall deal with the studio following a long relationship. Under the deal, Stern will develop and produce television projects for all platforms including premium and pay services as well as basic cable, on-demand, streaming platforms, digital outlets and broadcast networks. AMC is expanding another successful series into a scripted franchise. After giving the go-ahead last week to Better Call Saul, a spinoff series from Breaking Bad, the network just announced that it is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to mega hit The Walking Dead. The new drama series has a target on-air date of 2015. It will be will be executive produced by The Walking Dead executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert for AMC Studios. “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. What started with a viral short will become a shortform series. Quibi said today that it is developing a Code 8 spinoff series starring cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell, who also topline the independent sci-fi thriller that hits theaters Friday. The film’s director Jeff Chan will helm the Quibi series and write it with the film’s scribe Chris Paré. The crowdfunded feature is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with supernatural abilities — but instead of being treated as heroes, they are feared and heavily policed.
