9 Years Of Queen: Here’s Why Kangana Ranaut’s Rani Mehra Will Always Be A Pop Culture’s Favourite Character
Kangana Ranaut, over the years, has proved herself as a powerhouse performer and became one of the most important figures in the realm of Bollywood. However, back in 2006, when this young, naive, and gorgeous newcomer stepped into the world of cinema with the crime drama film Gangster, nobody would have imagined that one day she would be nicknamed the 'Queen of Bollywood.' In her initial days, she was mocked for the way she spoke, the way she dressed, and the way she carried herself. All in all, her existence in Bollywood was questioned. Kangana did not let this stop her from realising her dreams as she improved her skills and, with each film, gained the flair that positioned her among the A-list female actors in the Hindi film industry. Eight years after her first film and a series of hits and misses, in 2014 came her mega-hit, Queen, directed by Vikas Bahl. Though the initial response to this film was lukewarm, it turned out to be a turning point in her career and … [Read more...] about 9 Years Of Queen: Here’s Why Kangana Ranaut’s Rani Mehra Will Always Be A Pop Culture’s Favourite Character

Mubi is adding over 50 features from the Sony Pictures ’ library to its U.S. streaming service. The mix of studio and arthouse fare includes Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind , Martin Scorsese ’s The Age of Innocence , The Last Picture Show by Peter Bogdanovich and films from Wes Anderson , Pedro Almodovar and Guillermo Del Toro. The company’s growing and global streaming service currently offers over 900 titles in the U.S., where it adds one new film to the platform daily. Peter Bart: Contrasting The Leading-Man Life From Keanu, Cruise & Harrison Ford To Sean Connery & Seminal Swashbuckler Errol Flynn
“I never set out to play the hero, but since I’m usually cast as one I want to be the best paid hero.” That’s what Sean Connery said at a moment when he was re-negotiating his James Bond deal. As a serious actor, Connery admitted he never understood what traits audiences wanted from their movie heroes and his confusion would be shared by studio mavens today. Even long-in-the-tooth leading men can find a second wind. Keanu Reeves is drawing record box office in John Wick: Chapter 4 , cast as a laconic virtuoso of death who emerges from retirement because his dog got killed. Tom Cruise doesn’t kill anyone on screen in Top Gun: Maverick , but his actions in keeping that movie from a streaming bow helped put the theatrical business back on track. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford cemented his status at 80 as the dean of geriatric heroism: He’s got the James Mangold-directed Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny headed to Cannes, and up next is Thunderbolt Ross in Captain … [Read more...] about Peter Bart: Contrasting The Leading-Man Life From Keanu, Cruise & Harrison Ford To Sean Connery & Seminal Swashbuckler Errol Flynn

‘Life Of Pi’ Broadway Review: A Boy And His Tiger Show Their Stripes
When a character promises a life story so inspirational it’ll make a believer of an atheist, the tale better come through on some big-time convincing. Life of Pi , Lolita Chakrabarti’s stage adaption of Yann Martel’s heart-tugging 2001 novel opening tonight at Broadway ’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, won’t likely be churning out any religious converts, but renewed faith in the art of puppetry is all but guaranteed. Starring the winning young actor Hiran Abeysekera, reprising his Olivier Award-winning London turn as the title character, Life of Pi , directed by Max Webster, sticks closer to the novel than to Ang Lee’s 2012 film adaptation, building the plot around a maritime investigation rather than the writing of a book – and, of course, replacing CGI beasties with enough fully articulated life-size puppets to populate a zoo, or at least a lifeboat. All aboard, at one time or another, are a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra, the odd sea turtle, a hyena-bait water rat and, most … [Read more...] about ‘Life Of Pi’ Broadway Review: A Boy And His Tiger Show Their Stripes
