Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Eyes 20 Original Series A Year, Rips Theater Owners Again – NATPE
As Netflix continues to expand internationally, Ted Sarandos said he’s got sights on offering as many as 20 original scripted series per year as he sat in conversation with Netflix-friendly creators Vince Gilligan ( Breaking Bad ) and Mitch Hurwitz ( Arrested Development ) on Wednesday at NATPE . “I think we can launch — successfully, high quality — around 20 original scripted shows a year, which means every 2 1/2 to three weeks you’re launching a new season or a new show on Netflix meant to be for really diverse tastes all around the world,” he said. The question came in reference to Netflix’s recent original series Marco Polo , a $90 million production that drew mixed reviews but, he said, played extremely well overseas. “The launch and completion rates were comparable with Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards , and more than that it’s happening around the world at the same time,” Sarandos said. “The season 2 pickup was based on that performance.” … [Read more...] about Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Eyes 20 Original Series A Year, Rips Theater Owners Again – NATPE

Welcome Our Robot Overlords: Why I Think AI Creative Apps Are About to Disrupt the Business of Content
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. I so perfectly recall the magical day I bought my first computer. I was about 13 years old and had scrimped and saved from my teenage moneymaking schemes to assemble a grand total of $115. At the local big box store, that would get me a Timex Sinclair 1000. Now understand that I am a digital fossil, but if you’ll just imagine all of this through the early Eighties lens of a Stranger Things episode, it will start to come into focus. These were days when there wasn’t any dominant computer platform. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were just coming out of the garage with the Apple 1. IBM earnestly presented its plain vanilla IBM 5150 (which we can only assume it didn’t realize was also the police Welfare and Institution Code). At the fringes were all kinds of nascent and primitive magical bits of kit from companies like Atari, Commodore and Sinclair. They were cheap, a … [Read more...] about Welcome Our Robot Overlords: Why I Think AI Creative Apps Are About to Disrupt the Business of Content
