The Crown is having another royal evening – winning best drama series for the second time. The Netflix series won best drama series in 2017 and has triumphed again, albeit with a new cast. The drama beat Lovecraft Country, The Mandalorian, Ozark and Ratched to win the top TV drama prize. Creator Peter Morgan had a long list of people to thank including the cast and crew of the show, Left Bank, Sony Pictures TV and his family as well Netflix executives Cindy Holland and Nina Wolarsky – two execs that he pointed out were no longer at the streaming service. “I’m just sorry I’m sitting in my tragic little office not surrounded by the people who make the show such a pleasure,” he said. “Quite frankly, I miss not being with all my fellow nominees, in that wonderful room, in that crazy room at the Beverly Hilton. I’m glad I’m not having to face that room making a speech but it’s always the most fun awards show.” It’s been a good night so far for The Crown , … [Read more...] about ‘The Crown’ Drama Win Helps Netflix Series Knight Another Royal Night, Peter Morgan Calls Golden Globes “Most Fun” Awards

Diane Warren And Laura Pausini Win Original Song Golden Globe For ‘Io Si (Seen)’ From ‘The Life Ahead’
UPDATED with video: Six-time Golden Globe award nominee and, now, two-time winner Diane Warren was brief in her acceptance speech for Best Original Song – Motion Picture on Sunday, when the habitually soft-spoken composer got to the point for her work on “Io Si (Seen)” from Netflix’s The Life Ahead . She thanked director Eduardo Ponti, and the film’s star – and Ponti’s famous mother — Sophia Loren. She then said of the film, “It’s such a beautiful story about people who aren’t really seen and they see each other and they see each other through love. And that’s what inspired the song. So thank you again. Warren shares the award with Niccolò Agliardi and Laura Pausini , the latter of whom also spoke. Pausini thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press, saying, “Grazie Mille,” which translates to “a thousand graces” in Italian. “Io Si (Seen)” won in a field that also included nominees “Fight for You” by D’Mile, H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas from Judas and the Black Messiah ; … [Read more...] about Diane Warren And Laura Pausini Win Original Song Golden Globe For ‘Io Si (Seen)’ From ‘The Life Ahead’
Watch Jane Fonda’s Moving Acceptance Speech at the 2021 Golden Globes
Actress, activist and living legend Jane Fonda was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2021 Golden Globes . In a mostly remote ceremony, the 83-year-old Fonda appeared onstage at the Globes while following Covid-19 safety protocols to accept her award. Eschewing the usual script for Golden Globes honorary acceptance speeches, Fonda turned the attention away from herself and onto the nominees this year, and highlighted both the diversity of the films and television series recognized (or not recognized) that made her empathize with people of all backgrounds and experiences. “Just this year, Nomadland helped me feel love for the wanderers among us,” Fonda said, “and Minari opened my eyes to the experience of immigrants dealing with the realities of life in a new land, and Judas and the Black Messiah , Small Axe , United States vs. Billie Holiday , Ma Rainey and One Night in Miami and others have deepened my empathy for what being Black has meant. Int’l Critics Line: Todd McCarthy On ‘Language Lessons’ – Berlin
Whether by accident or design, the ultra-low-budget Language Lessons feels like a definitive film for the Covid-19 era, as the two main actors never appear in the same shot together until the very end. Seemingly created on two computers, this exceedingly modest tale of a Spanish-language instructor and pupil who meet online becomes more genially engaging as it goes along, although it never aims very high other than as a technical experiment that more or less succeeds. It plays just fine on home equipment and it’s hard to imagine that there would be anything to be gained from experiencing this Berlinale Special world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on the big screen. The script by indie stalwart Mark Duplass and director-actress Natalie Morales is entirely restricted to the chats the two characters, Adam and Cariño, have in the course of online language lessons bought for the former by his partner — 100 of them, no less. Adam and his mate Will are … [Read more...] about Int’l Critics Line: Todd McCarthy On ‘Language Lessons’ – Berlin
