The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today that it won’t take any action to revoke Andrea Riseborough ’s Oscar nomination for To Leslie . “The Academy has determined the activity in question does not rise to the level that the film’s nomination should be rescinded,” AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer said in a statement (read it below). The Academy had been conducting a review of the campaign procedures around this year’s Oscar nominees — a reaction to Riseborough’s left-field, grassroots nomination for her little-seen film. She received a groundswell of support from fellow actors in the weeks leading up to January 24 nominations. AMPAS also said last week that it was mulling “whether changes to the guidelines may be needed in a new era of social media and digital communication.” To Leslie took in a little over $27,000 during its brief theatrical release in October, making it among the lowest-grossing movies ever to score an Oscar nom. ‘You People’ Debuts At No. 1 On Netflix Top 10 Film List; ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Still Reigns Supreme For TV
Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill’s romantic comedy You People debuted at the top of the Netflix English-language film list for the week of January 23 to January 29. The film, in which Hill also stars alongside Eddie Murphy, racked up 55.65M hours viewed in its first week on the streamer. That put it leaps and bounds above the No. 2 spot, which went to the Lily Collins-led thriller Inheritance with 11.6M hours viewed. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is still sitting in the No. 3 spot, putting up another 9.7M hours viewed. Also on the list were Puss in Boots, Devotion, Dog Gone, Pale Blue Eye, Sing, Matilda the Musical and Trolls. While it didn’t make it onto the Top 10 in the U.S., Netflix also says that All Quiet on the Western Front received a bit of an Oscars buzz boost, with viewership increasing 190% over the previous week. The film, which scored nine Academy Award nominations including for Best Picture, was viewed for 8.17M hours this week. DC Bosses “Didn’t Fire” Henry Cavill; Talk Fate Of Robert Pattinson, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Filmmakers & More In New Universe
When new DC Co-Chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran took their new posts last fall, there was a lot of agita in town with their swift decisions. This included the axing of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 , pausing the future of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and subtracting Henry Cavill from their new Superman Legacy movie after the actor (with Warner Bros) announced his return on social as the Man of Steel and appeared in Black Adam . Rumors promptly swirled that Gunn and Safran were hellbent on decimating the previous DC Snyderverse, which included recasting the actors who portrayed the comic book’s biggest superheroes, i.e. Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ), Aquaman ( Jason Momoa ), Shazam ( Zachary Levi ) and more. Quelling that fire, Safran said Monday that the door is still open to do more with those actors in their DC roles. NBC’s ‘La Brea’ Likely To End With Abbreviated Season 3 As Networks Start Building Strike Contingency
EXCLUSIVE : NBC earlier today announced that its sci-fi drama La Brea has been renewed for a third season. I have learned that the pickup is for six episodes and that it was influenced by the possibility of a writers and/or directors and actors strike, with this likely being the show’s final chapter. Filming is slated to begin in March in Australia. With the current WGA contract expiring May 1 and the DGA and SAG-AFTRA contracts up June 30, a potential work stoppage could impact the start of production on the new broadcast season, leaving the networks without fresh episodes of scripted series for the first few weeks of the fall. Possibly with that in mind, I hear NBC approached the cast of La Brea about doing a short third season. Because the series regulars have a 10-episode minimum guarantee (meaning that they have to be paid at least 10 episodic fees a season regardless of how many episodes are produced), the network and sister studio Universal Television asked … [Read more...] about NBC’s ‘La Brea’ Likely To End With Abbreviated Season 3 As Networks Start Building Strike Contingency
‘Westworld’ Gets New Home As Warner Bros. Discovery Strikes Roku & Tubi FAST Channel Deals
Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to distribute Westworld and other key shows via FAST channels has materialized. Deals have been struck with Roku and Tubi to launch branded channels this year, bringing more than 2,000 hours of programs in total to each service. Deadline had reported WBD was likely to sell Westworld and other key titles to FAST channel providers in December, when it was pulled from HBO Max. That came amid a financial review of the HBO portfolio. Other shows, including The Nevers , Raised By Wolves and F-Boy Island were pulled at the same time, as WBD CEO David Zaslav eyed new ways to monetize his catalog. Tubi noted The Nevers is included in its agreement. Following the deals, Westworld , The Bachelor , Cake Boss , Say Yes to the Dress and F-Boy Island will all join The Roku Channel in the spring through Warner Bros-branded channels, while Fox Corp-owned Tubi will launch 14 WB-branded channels and 225 titles on its … [Read more...] about ‘Westworld’ Gets New Home As Warner Bros. Ezra Miller’s ‘Flash’ Future Addressed By New DC Bosses
DC Bosses Peter Safran and James Gunn in an unveiling of their DC Universe Chapter 1 yesterday haven’t shut the door on Ezra Miller ’s possible return as the Flash . Despite the actor’s avalanche of 2022 tabloid headlines, the duo expressed their elation for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, due out on June 16 after a long Covid delay, and how it will reset the DC universe as the hand-off occurs between the Snyder-verse and the new Safran/Gunn-verse. That said, still TBD on whether Miller reprising the role, however, Safran was very upbeat on the actor’s recovery. Said Safran, “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now.” “When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is,” added the DC co-boss, “But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.” “And in our conversations with them over the last couple of … [Read more...] about Ezra Miller’s ‘Flash’ Future Addressed By New DC Bosses
