‘The Music Man’, ‘A Strange Loop’ And ‘Death Of A Salesman’ Among Shows Leaving Broadway On A High Note; Overall Box Office Slips To $34M
Broadway lost six productions on January 15 – including the top-grossing The Music Man – to the usual January roster-thinning, and each show went out on a happy note with strong attendance. With 29 productions on the boards, Broadway grossed $33,859,988 for the week ending January 15, down about 9% from the previous week when there were 32 productions reporting figures. Total attendance was 247,667, a 10% drop commensurate with the fewer shows. Overall capacity percentage remained at about 93%. Each of the six final-week shows filled at least 90% of seats at their venues, and all reported significant increases in box office dollars from the previous week. A Strange Loop , for example, set a new house record at the Lyceum, beating (with eight performances) the 2020 record set by Jack Thorne’s A Christmas Carol (and that was for nine performances). The Music Man , meanwhile, set previous 8-show records in 53 out of 54 performance weeks and the 9-show record 51 … [Read more...] about ‘The Music Man’, ‘A Strange Loop’ And ‘Death Of A Salesman’ Among Shows Leaving Broadway On A High Note; Overall Box Office Slips To $34M

Chelsea Handler Takes Shots At Prince Harry, James Corden, Congress & More In Opening Monologue At Critics Choice Awards
In her debut as host of the Critics Choice Awards , Chelsea Handler opted for a traditional Hollywood roast in her opening monologue. “It is an honor to be your host tonight after everything that we have all been through together over the past few years between Covid, monkeypox, the Don’t Worry Darling press tour. It’s been a lot,” Handler said at the top of her monologue, a reference to the slew of salacious stories Don’t Worry Darling ‘s director, Olivia Wilde, and stars, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, generated around the film’s release. ‘Poker Face’ Review: No Lie! Natasha Lyonne & Rian Johnson’s Peacock Road Trip Procedural Is All Green Lights & Parking Spaces
Let’s put our cards on the table: Almost three years after Peacock launched, the Comcast-owned streamer finally has a legitimate potential breakout show in Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson ’s Poker Face . Debuting with four episodes Friday and then dropping the rest of its 10-episode first season weekly, the one-hour drama could prove the dramatic reset the sports-focused Peacock has needed since day one. Part of that is clearly the combined star power and skills of the Russian Doll star and the Knives Out director, along with a wonderfully villainous Benjamin Bratt and an old-school awards-show phalanx of guest stars. True to the talent on both sides of the camera, Poker Face’ s winning hand has a lot to do with how well-crafted and constructed it is. However, besides a beat-up Plymouth Barracuda, Rockford Files trailer home homages and all, the wider appeal of Poker Face is that it is a confident show for grown-ups that younger viewers who never … [Read more...] about ‘Poker Face’ Review: No Lie! You can find out about two of Liz’s bandmates, bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Tristan Deck, favourite Auckland haunts below.
