‘Love Goes To Buildings On Fire: Five Years in New York that Changed Music Forever,’ by Rolling Stone contributor Will Hermes and available today, chronicles the period between 1973-1978 during which punk, hip-hop, salsa and other revolutionary forms of popular music were born or reinvented. In this exclusive excerpt, Hermes tells the stories of three era-defining musical beginnings: the collaboration of punk pioneers Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell, the early days of the New York Dolls and the legacy of jazz legend Sonny Rollins. Tom Miller was tripping his balls off on LSD in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The next thing he knew, a week later, he was in New York City, crashing in a crappy East Village apartment with his old friend Richard Meyers. They were both 19 years old. They’d met at Sanford, a boarding school for ne’er-do-wells and other types near Wilmington. Meyers was raised in Lexington, Kentucky, a town shadowed by the Lexington Narcotics Farm rehab facility, … [Read more...] about Exclusive Book Excerpt: ‘Love Goes To Buildings On Fire: Five Years in New York that Changed Music Forever’

Neetu Kapoor Reveals Her Surprise For Alia Bhatt That She Gave Her On Wedding Day; ‘I Made Alia Happy’
On April 14, 2022, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot in Mumbai in the presence of their family members and close friends. When their pictures surfaced on social media, it brightened up everyone's day. After all, sheer joy was written all over the leaked pictures from Alia-Ranbir's wedding. In her recent tete-a-tete with a media portal, Ranbir's actress-mom Neetu Kapoor opened up about the wedding and revealed how she surprised Alia on her D-day. She told India Today, "The wedding dance was all my idea, actually. I told everyone we should do something, even though the time is less. I had to do dancing, I told them. So we practiced whatever we could for a day. We even planned, me and Reema. We planned to do Gidda, which is like a Punjabi traditional dance. We tried something new. We did gidda, then new songs and then Ranbir joined them. It was really fun." Neetu further said that Alia was left surprised because she had no idea that her mother-in-law had … [Read more...] about Neetu Kapoor Reveals Her Surprise For Alia Bhatt That She Gave Her On Wedding Day; ‘I Made Alia Happy’
Cannes Film Festival: Ruben Ostlund Wins Second Palme D’Or With ‘Triangle Of Sadness’ – Full List
UPDATE, Refresh for latest …: Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund led one of his now trademark primal screams inside the Palais tonight as his latest film, Triangle Of Sadness , was crowned with the Cannes Film Festival ’s Palme d’Or. This is the second time Ostlund has won the prestigious prize, following 2017’s The Square . Ostlund tonight joined an elite group of filmmakers who have taken two Palmes, including the Dardenne brothers who were awarded a special 75th anniversary prize this evening for their Tori And Lokita . Contrary to the wild and wacky closing ceremony of last year’s Cannes Film Festival, tonight’s event was a very straightforward affair. Triangle Of Sadness was acquired by Neon for North America earlier this week. In Deadline’s review , Stephanie Bunbury called it “a mission statement about equality: that it doesn’t exist, that it cannot exist, that while calamity may bring the downfall of the top dogs, new curs will replace them and … [Read more...] about Cannes Film Festival: Ruben Ostlund Wins Second Palme D’Or With ‘Triangle Of Sadness’ – Full List
He Lost His Son to a School Shooting. Here’s Why He’s Willing to Relive His Agony
When Mark Barden received the first “thinking of you” text on Tuesday afternoon, he assumed the well-wisher had the anniversary of some other horrific school shooting on their mind. Late May is ripe with them: This week marks the four-year anniversary of a shooting spree at a high school Santa Fe, Texas, that left 10 dead, and eight years since a University of California, Santa Barbara student murdered two fellow students outside a sorority house in Isla Vista, California. “They do just seem to stack up,” Barden sighed. Barden would soon find out, of course, about a new tragedy unfolding at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The massacre, which left 19 students and two teachers dead, would be immediately dubbed “another Sandy Hook ” — the very thing Barden had devoted his life to preventing ever since the 2012 shooting claimed his seven-year-old son Daniel and 19 other first graders. On Tuesday night, Barden and his wife, Jackie, got in their car and drove around. “We just … [Read more...] about He Lost His Son to a School Shooting. Here’s Why He’s Willing to Relive His Agony
‘The Conjuring’ Haunted House That Inspired The Horror Film Franchise Has Been Sold
As a young woman noted at the beginning of The Conjuring , “It scares us just thinking about it.” She was talking about the elements that went into the film. But that statement also applies to the real estate price wars that are driving housing toward the sky throughout the country. In Rhode Island, that means that the early 19th century house that inspired the horror film (but wasn’t shot there) fetched a price 27% above asking, selling recently for $1.52 million. For the uninitiated, the 2013 horror film The Conjuring is a fictionalized account of the Perron family and their work with paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The house has a history of murder, rape and suicide. Apparently that’s not enough to dissuade buyers in this over-heated market: the property’s listing says it’s rumored to be haunted by the spirit of Bathsheba Sherman, who resided there in the 19th century. The 3,109-square-foot house is located at 1677 Round Top Road in … [Read more...] about ‘The Conjuring’ Haunted House That Inspired The Horror Film Franchise Has Been Sold
