"Pyaar mein junoon hai, par dosti mein sukoon hai." This dialogue by Alizah (Anushka Sharma) in Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil perfectly captures the essence of friendship. Friends are the reason why we laugh a little harder, cry a little less and laugh a lot more. They are there to share your happy times and grief, encourage you to put your best foot forward in what you do and sometime, just lend a patient ear when things ain't going your way. We believe that when life gives you lemons, you make a lemonade out of it and enjoy with their close pals! Just like our real life, the reel world too, has given us many friends who gave us BFF goals and took us on a rollercoaster of emotions. On Friendships' Day today (August 7), let's have a look at some of the fictional characters in Hindi cinema who taught us that life is incomplete without having a set of friends. Jai-Veeru (Sholay) Jai-Veeru's iconic bike scene from Amitabh Bachchan-Dharmendra's … [Read more...] about Friendship Day 2022: Bollywood On Screen ‘Dosti’ Which Gave Us Real Life Goals

Bill Maher Remembers His Friend Salman Rushdie On ‘Real Time’
While Salman Rushdie struggles for his life in the wake of a stabbing attack, an angry Bill Maher decried the treatment of his good friend (and frequent guest) by a man whose name had the host guessing”is not Amish.” Sal, as Maher called him, was planning to talk about how the US is a safe haven for controversial points of view. “Giving that speech is unthinkable in most Muslim countries,” Maher said, warning, “Don’t come at me with Islamaphobia. When you say ‘phobic,’ it’s just a way to shut off debate.” Guest Piers Morgan, who has his own experience with controversial speech, drew applause when he noted, “The defense of free speech starts with something you can’t stand.” You may hate the opinions, Morgan said. “But you should be able to tolerate their right to have a different opinion.” Morgan also pointed with alarm to the rise of anti-free speech sentiments in the US and UK, with calls for “trigger warnings” and in one instance, cancellation of a professor who … [Read more...] about Bill Maher Remembers His Friend Salman Rushdie On ‘Real Time’
Bryan ‘Brain’ Mantia Was There for Guns N’ Roses’ Most Unpredictable Era. Here’s What It Was Really Like
Rolling Stone interview series Unknown Legends features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and veteran musicians who have toured and recorded alongside icons for years. All are renowned in the business, but some are less well known to the general public. Here, these artists tell their stories, giving an up-close look at life on music’s A list. This edition features drummer Bryan “Brain” Mantia. Guns N’ Roses’ 2002 Chinese Democracy tour and Tom Waits ’ 2004 Real Gone tour were such wildly different affairs that comparing them almost seems ludicrous. GN’R were playing arenas behind an outrageously anticipated album that wouldn’t land in stores for another six years, and there was so much chaos surrounding the shows — including a riot in Philadelphia when the band never showed up onstage — that promoters canceled the tour less than halfway through. Waits, meanwhile, played 11 intimate shows at small theaters across Europe and North America, and they … [Read more...] about Bryan ‘Brain’ Mantia Was There for Guns N’ Roses’ Most Unpredictable Era. Senate Finally Passes Bill Boosting Health Benefits for Vets After Republicans Pulled Support
After Republicans nearly derailed what was widely believed to be a popular bipartisan effort to expand health care to vets exposed to harmful toxins, the PACT Act finally passed the Senate, Tuesday, Aug. 2. It passed a vote of 86 – 11 on Tuesday. The PACT Act cleared the House of Representatives in July and will be signed into law by Joe Biden. The PACT Act is set to expand healthcare benefits to more than 3 million veterans and 9/11 first responders who have been exposed to toxins like those found in Agent Orange and burn pits (heaps of trash and waste that soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan often burned using jet fuel). The bill also removed requirements preventing veterans from accessing care because they had to prove their illnesses had been caused by on-duty exposure to harmful toxins. But despite the cause and the ostensible bipartisan support for the PACT Act, its pathway to passage turned out to be surprisingly bumpy. A version of the bill actually passed the … [Read more...] about Senate Finally Passes Bill Boosting Health Benefits for Vets After Republicans Pulled Support

2ND MONDAY UPDATE, writethru : Just as it has domestically , Warner Bros/Village Roadshow/Bron Studios’ Joker has come in higher in the overseas weekend actuals — and even higher than what we were hearing earlier this morning. Lionsgate Says Scope Of Starz Deal Could Grow As Partners Eye Studio Too; September Announcement On Track
Lionsgate execs said the company is still on track to announce a deal for Starz next month and close as early as next spring, but talks have expanded to possibly include the studio as well. CEO Jon Feltheimer said Thursday that different types of bidders have emerged — a group of investors focused on the streaming platform, and others that understand the “immense value” of the studio and are eyeing that. He urged Wall Street to look at Amazon’s $8.5 billion purchase of MGM as a benchmark, noting the high price tag, and that it left Lionsgate “the only real, actionable investment” around as a studio. “Our library is better than the MGM library. Our library is newer, fresher than the MGM library,” he said. On timing, he and CFO James Barge — speaking on a post-earnings call — said it’s key is to do this deal “right, not fast,” especially as it’s become more complicated with the structure being considered “now broader” than just Starz. For the company’s fiscal first … [Read more...] about Lionsgate Says Scope Of Starz Deal Could Grow As Partners Eye Studio Too; September Announcement On Track
