In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 radio, Harry Styles opened up about the transformative and emotional period that led to the creation of his third solo studio album Harry’s House , out May 20. For Styles, one of the most essential elements of creating the record consisted of making up for lost time — and not just what was lost to the pandemic. Styles reflected on the whirlwind start to his career when he was sorted into One Direction as a teenager and the lighting speed he maintained after going solo. “You miss so many birthdays and stuff like that. And then eventually, it’s just assumed that you’re unable to be at stuff,” Styles told Lowe. “And I think that was one of the things where I was like, ‘Oh, I want to take a second to invest some more time into balancing my life out a little bit.’ This working is not everything about who I am, it’s something I do. And I don’t want to be defined as a person necessarily by what I do all the time. I want to … [Read more...] about Harry Styles Is Done ‘Emotionally Coasting’ After One Direction Days, Doesn’t Want to Be ‘Defined’ by His Music

Phoebe Bridgers Has Her World Thrown Off Its Axis in ‘Sidelines’ Video From ‘Conversations With Friends’
In the music video for her latest original song “Sidelines,” singer and songwriter Phoebe Bridgers lets emotions get messy. The video pulls footage from Conversations With Friends , the Hulu series adapted from Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name, to tease out a web of complicated relationships. “Watched the world from the sidelines / Had nothing to prove,” she croons over a microphone on the song crafted for the series. “Til you came into my life / Gave me something to lose.” Conversations With Friends follows 21-year-old Dublin university student Frances (Alison Oliver) as she explores an unconventional relationship with her former girlfriend and current best friend Bobbi (Sasha Lane), and a curious married couple made up of Nick (Joe Alwyn) and Melissa (Jemima Kirke). Ricky Gardiner, David Bowie and Iggy Pop’s Berlin-Era Guitarist, Dead at 73
Ricky Gardiner, the guitarist who played stinging, obtuse leads throughout Davie Bowie’s iconic Low and Iggy Pop ’s rowdy Lust for Life , has died at age 73. Tony Visconti, who co-produced Low , reported the news on Facebook , saying that Gardiner’s wife, Virginia, had notified him of the guitarist’s death. Gardiner had been battling Parkinson’s at the time of his death. “Dearest Ricky, lovely, lovely man, shirtless in your coveralls, nicest guy who ever played guitar,” Iggy Pop wrote on Twitter . “Thanks for the memories and the songs, rest eternal in peace.” Gardiner’s otherworldly solos define Low’s first side, giving elasticity to “What in the World,” a slinkiness to “Sound and Vision,” and heroic drama to “Be My Wife.” On Pop’s Lust for Life , which Bowie co-produced, Gardiner wrote the eerie, skanking music that accompanies “The Passenger” and he and Bowie co-wrote the raffish music for the supremely cheeky “Success” and the … [Read more...] about Ricky Gardiner, David Bowie and Iggy Pop’s Berlin-Era Guitarist, Dead at 73

Help Sunny Day Real Estate’s Dan Hoerner Save Washington Club
Seattle rock outfit Sunny Day Real Estate might be in a state of flux, but guitarist Dan Hoerner is still passionate about the Washington music scene. In an effort to save legendary Spokane venue The Big Dipper, Hoerner has started an IndieGoGo campaign with a target of $50,000. Random Notes 2014: Hottest Rock Pics After learning that The Big Dipper had fallen into shambles, Hoerner bought the downtown venue with his wife, Dawson Smith-Hoerner. They’ve spent the past seven months renovating the space, but they’re still in need of a full fire sprinkler system – which is where the crowdfunding comes into play. “Spokane needs to have The Big Dipper as part of the cityscape,” Hoerner said in a statement. “It’s like the goat at the park or the horses on the Carousel or Merlyn’s or the Flour Mill. . . You have to have that stuff around for Spokane to be Spokane. We think The Big Dipper needs to be a part of the fabric of our city and we want to bring it back to life.” … [Read more...] about Help Sunny Day Real Estate’s Dan Hoerner Save Washington Club
Mac Miller Drug Dealer Sentenced to 17.5 Years for Lethal Fentanyl Sale
The top drug dealer convicted in the fatal fentanyl overdose of rapper Mac Miller was sentenced to 17 and a half years in federal prison Monday. The judge rejected his plea deal as too lenient after he continued to sell counterfeit oxycodone pills even after the rapper’s untimely demise in September 2018. Stephen Walter, 49, had agreed to a flat 17-year sentence under a deal with federal prosecutors struck last October, but considering the bargain was below federal guidelines, and because prosecutors previously claimed Walter continued to sell cocaine and the dangerous pills known as “blues” leading up to his 2019 arrest, U.S. District Judge Otis D. Wright, II, said he couldn’t accept it. “The court has elected not to accept that plea agreement. So, sir, if you want, at this point, you can withdraw your guilty plea and go to trial,” Judge Wright said. “I may as well lay it out, okay. When you continue to engage in this activity even after your activities killed someone, … [Read more...] about Mac Miller Drug Dealer Sentenced to 17.5 Years for Lethal Fentanyl Sale
Shawn Mendes Pays Homage to Bruce Springsteen With ‘Dancing in the Dark’ Cover
Shawn Mendes is pushing his Canadian roots to the side in a new Tommy Hilfiger campaign that features the singer-songwriter covering Bruce Springsteen ’s 1984 single “Dancing in the Dark.” Directed by Craig McDean and Theo Stanley, Mendes delivers his rendition of the dance-rock track from an Austin, Texas warehouse. The singer fully commits with his rendition, paying homage by tucking a tri-colored Americana bandana into his jeans and rocking out on his own with the energy of a packed-out stadium show. The little details all point back to Springsteen’s own style in the original “Dancing in the Dark” music video. The cover follows the arrival of the young singer’s own Springsteen-esque single “When You’re Gone,” a contemplative breakup song that transforms into an arena-ready sing along before it can weigh itself down too much. Springsteen’s influence as a musician and songwriter has been at the root of Mendes’ artistry since the singer was first paired up with longtime … [Read more...] about Shawn Mendes Pays Homage to Bruce Springsteen With ‘Dancing in the Dark’ Cover
100 Gecs Take Flight in New ‘Doritos and Fritos’ Video
100 Gecs take flight and dance around a desert while local news reports on their whereabouts in their new video for “Doritos and Fritos.” The song is their second single from their highly-anticipated LP, 10000 Gecs . Directed by Chris Maggio, the playful visual finds the duo peacefully soaring through the air like kites in their purple and yellow wizard robes while the local news and others are hot on their trail. When Dylan Brady and Laura Les are on the ground, they’re seen dancing to the song’s propulsive beat and also fleeing from authorities. And like the song title hints, there is some eating — particularly a burrito — involved. “Doritos and Fritos” follows 100 Gecs’ 2021 single, “Mememe,” which arrived last November. Both songs will appear on 10000 Gecs , which follows the duo’s celebrated 2019 debut, 1000 Gecs . They have not yet shared the release date for 10000 Gecs, though it is expected to arrive this year. Next week, 100 Gecs open for Nine Inch Nails for … [Read more...] about 100 Gecs Take Flight in New ‘Doritos and Fritos’ Video
