And while there is part of me that still hankers for my yearly fix of the breakneck bombast and ooh-ra melodrama of a Call of Duty campaign, Black Ops 4 won me over with its ebullient variety and extraordinary polish. It is, simply put, the most fun I’ve had with a FPS multiplayer package since Overwatch rewrote the rulebook in 2016. The real reason for a lack of campaign may be lost to the annals of time but, regardless of the whys and wherefores, the result is a game that, while not without fault, lets its component parts breathe. Competitive multiplayer is a blast, retaining much of Black Ops 3’s searing pace, stripping back its excess and adding its own ideas. Zombies is as camp, meaty and messy as ever, while Fortnite-challenging … [Read more...] about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 review

For a game all about evolution, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee certainly feels like the next logical step for players sucked into the world of pocket monsters by Pokémon Go. If you haven’t yet played the 20-year strong series but were one of the millions glued to your phone, scouring local landmarks to find an elusive Ditto or cursing the appearance of yet another Rattata, developer Game Freak and The Pokémon Company are looking to ensnare you in this new full-blown Nintendo Switch title. It looks like a game adjusting itself for a new audience, but plucks at the nostalgia strings to ensure the audience built up over the last 20 years does not feel left behind. For the uninitiated, Pokémon … [Read more...] about Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee
