Disney Junior has given an early season 2 renewal to animated, mystery-adventure series Mira, Royal Detective, ahead of its anticipated spring 2020 debut. The news was announced today by Joe D’Ambrosia, SVP Original Programming and general manager, Disney Junior, during a special advance screening of the series in Burbank, CA. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series follows the brave and resourceful Mira, played by newcomer Leela Ladnier, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the queen and travels throughout her kingdom to help royals and commoners alike. Each episode features two 11-minute stories that celebrate the cultures and customs of India by incorporating authentic storytelling, music, food, fashion, language, art and dance. Well, this is awkward timing. During Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment’s panel at Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday evening, the company announced a new original preschool animated series for Disney Junior, Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Set to debut in 2021, it marks the first full-length Marvel series for Disney Junior. The news comes at the end of a tumultuous week for the Spider-Man live-action movie franchise. Walt Disney Television is renewing syndicated talk show Tamron Hall for a second season, saying it has been cleared in more than 80% of the country. ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke made the announcement Thursday. Closing time is finally at hand for the $71.3 billion Disney-Fox combination, which will see assets like the fabled Fox film and TV studio, FX Networks, National Geographic and a 30% stake in Hulu move to Disney. The transaction is scheduled to become official just after midnight ET — 12:02 AM, to be exact — on Wednesday. The merger is one of the most consequential in Hollywood history. Among other things, it brings an end to the colorful run of 20th Century Fox as a stand-alone studio and adds Avatar, X-Men and Deadpool to the Disney library ahead of the fall launch of the direct-to-consumer Disney+ streaming service. Disney, which shared control of Hulu with Fox and NBCUniversal, will now have a 60% majority stake and is in talks with WarnerMedia to acquire its 10% share.
