Director Cary Fukunaga has backed away from directing New Line's highly-anticipated adaptation IT. The news comes just a few weeks after actor Will Poulter entered negotiations to play the evil clown Pennywise in the remake, but it isn't known if the director's departure will have any impact on the casting. Cary Fukunaga is directing the two-part movie from a script he co-wrote with Chase Palmer. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing through their KatzSmith company, alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Production is scheduled to begin sometime this summer. My protective antennae went up, but then I saw the movie and I read the script for Catching Fire and then I read all three books, when I realized there was a deeper level of allegory and social commentary being presented that was well considered and targeted towards a younger audience, in a way that's rare.
