Virgin River brings together an ensemble cast of characters, with each of them being praised for their warmth and idyllic nature. However, for some fans there always needs to be a worst, and that title recently fell on Charmaine Roberts (played by Lauren Hammersley). Yet, the star behind the Netflix character wasn't phased by the claims.

Charmaine Roberts has been a staple in Virgin River throughout its three seasons.
The ex-girlfriend of Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and the mother of his unborn twins, she has been one of the main characters of the show.
She inhabits a difficult position on the show as when Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) moves into town, she does her best to put a stop to any budding romance between the newcomer and Jack.
Charmaine and Mel have had a less than amicable relationship, with a lot of obvious tension between the two.

On top of this, she suffered from HG but refused to seek treatment at hospital, leading to a prolonged period of sickness.
Taking to Reddit, users voiced their thoughts on the character, with Outrangeous_Object123 writing: "How do you all feel about Charmaine? She annoys the cr*p out of me, I just want to know if I'm alone in this."
Alygirl227 replied: "I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone that DOES like her."
"You are not alone. They wrote her character so that she annoys just about everyone," Purple-Otter_ continued. (sic)

How did Lauren Hammersley respond?
Despite the barrage of negative comments about Charmaine on social media, Hammersley took it on the chin.
Sharing an image of a Looper.com article with the subheading "Charmaine Roberts is the most hated character on the show", Hammersley found the humour of the article.
"I've MADE IT!!!!" Hammersley captioned the Instagram post, with many of her fans replying with their love for the character and star.
Samozwancza143 wrote: "Sorry, but it’s literally one of the most amazing characters, even if she is supposed to be 'not exactly a hero'. Sending love from Poland."

"It takes an amazing actress to manage that. We are supposed to not like Charmaine. So excellent job," Wachowskikim added.
This isn't the first time Hammersley has shared her sense of humour about her character with her fans on Instagram.
A couple of months ago the star posted an image of Charmaine looking forlorn towards Jack and Mel in the style of the "My Fall Plans. The Delta Variant" meme.
"I don't know who made this but I LOVE IT," the star captioned the image.

Unafraid to joke about her character, the star is loved by her fans, but not only for Virgin River.
Hammersley can be seen in other popular series, Mrs D and Orphan Black, where she played Lisa Mason and Adele, respectively.
As for the future of Charmaine in Virgin River, it remains to be seen.
Netflix confirmed the development of seasons four and five in September but did not specify returning cast members.
It seems almost guaranteed Charmaine will be back, if for no other reason than to finally give birth to her twins.
Virgin River season 4 is tipped for release on Netflix in 2022.
