Thomas Mace-Archer-Mills, founder of the British Monarchists Society, made the comments as Republic, which calls for an elected head of state, is set to launch an anti-monarchy billboard advertising campaign across the UK. Mr Mace-Archer-Mills claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who quit royal duties last year for a new life in California, have become the “poster couple” for republicans.

The royal commentator told the Daily Star: “Harry and Meghan are in fact the poster couple for anti-monarchical sentiment which is being used by Republic.
“If those closest to the crown such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can openly work against the institution without repercussion, and undermine Harry’s family, then why shouldn’t this example be used and continued by anti-monarchy groups around the world?
“The Sussexes have provided an empowered roadmap for republicans to unleash their worst on the British monarchy and the nation’s next King.”

William consoled Prince George after England’s gut-wrenching defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley on Sunday.
The young royal was smartly dressed in a suit and tie as he joined his parents to cheer on the mighty Lions.
And initially it all seemed to be going like a dream, as Luke Shaw popped up to half-volley home Kieran Trippier’s cross in the second minute.
George , seven, enthusiastically celebrated the goal, beaming and hugging his mum, as Wembley exploded in euphoria
Lady Louise Windsor is sensible and has “her eyes fairly wide open”, according to her mother, Sophie Wessex.
The 17-year-old is described as a private individual with little interest in social media platforms, unlike most teenagers.
The Countess, 56, says she and Prince Edward, 57, are "protective" of their only daughter – but such decisions are "purely her choice".
The Duke of Cambridge, at Wembley with the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, visited the changing room.
"At the moment the players are understandably really quiet," Southgate said in his post-match press conference.
"They've just had the Duke down to see them in the dressing room and he has rightly thanked them for what they've done and been fulsome in his praise."
Prince William called England’s defeat in the Euro 2020 final “heartbreaking”, but told the players they could hold their “heads high”.
The Three Lions fell agonisingly short once again, as they lost the final on penalties to Italy.
After a blistering start by England, which resulted in a stunning goal by Luke Shaw in the second minute, Roberto Mancini’s men clawed their way back into the game with an equaliser from Leonardo Bonucci in the 67th minute.
The game went into extra-time, but neither team were able to find the winning goal.

The royal were left disappointed as England lost on penalties to Italy.
The Duke of Cambridge was accompanied at Wembley by the Duchess of Cambridge and their seven-year-old son Prince George. The young royal looked thrilled as he watched England score in the first two minutes.
A source told MailOnline: “One guest tested positive or was pinged for Covid contact and therefore no one else was able to gather.
“As a result, they called off the service and reception party afterwards at Royal Lodge, Prince Andrew’s home.
“The Queen and Eugenie’s parents Fergie and Prince Andrew had all been due to attend.”
They wrote on Twitter: “A fantastic #Wimbledon final – what a match Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini.
“Congratulations @DjokerNole on your record-equalling victory!”
Royal fans will be delighted to see George, seven, at the match after he joined the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge earlier in the tournament for the Three Lions’ triumph over Germany in the last 16 stage. The youngster was dressed in a mini-me suit and tie just like his father, who is president of the Football Association.
It is a busy day of sport for the Duchess of Cambridge, who has also been at Wimbledon for the men’s singles final.
William, who attended Wimbledon yesterday, has cheered on the Three Lions at Wembley multiple times during the Euros.
He was at the team’s nail-biting extra-time victory over Denmark in the semi-final on Wednesday.
The Aston Villa fan also saw the group D win over the Czech Republic and the quarter-final demolition of Ukraine.
In a video message ahead of the crunch match, William urged the Three Lions to “bring it home”.
He said: “Gareth (Southgate), Harry (Kane), and to every member of the England team on and off the pitch, I just want to wish you the very best of luck for tonight.
“What a team performance it’s been.
“Every member of the squad has played their part, and all the back room team as well have been truly essential.
“I can’t really believe this is happening.
“So exciting and I just wish you the very best of luck.
“You bring out the very best of England and we are all behind you.
“The whole country is behind you. So, bring it home.”

Meghan and Harry’s handling of Archie’s christening was a “turning point” that led to Megxit, according to a royal expert (Image: GETTY)
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s handling of Archie’s christening was a “turning point” that led to Megxit, according to a royal expert.
Royal commentator Daniela Elser said the British public felt like they were being “excluded” by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they kept the baptism in July 2019 largely under wraps.
Ms Elser added that “you can draw a straight line from that furore” to Harry and Meghan’s departure from the Royal Family less than a year later in March 2020 for a new life in America.
Writing for news.com.au, Ms Elser said: “At the time, the Duke and Duchess' decision to bar the usual small clutch of vetted media from photographing the group arriving at the chapel, as had been standard, and to not reveal the names of Archie's godparents set off a media storm.
“Hackles were raised and huffing voices took to opinion pages; the feeling being that the British public who had until then only shown the couple adoration were being excluded from this heartwarming moment.
“In hindsight, the handling of Archie's christening was a turning point for the couple and you can draw a straight line from that furore to Megxit.”
Meghan Markle ended things with former pal Piers Morgan “on good terms” and was shocked when the outspoken journalist turned against her, an expert has claimed.
Sean Smith, author of Meghan Misunderstood, said the Duchess of Sussex left the pleasant meeting in London in 2016 on good terms and could never have envisaged Mr Morgan would become one of her fiercest critics.
He wrote: “As she clambered into an Uber and left Piers on the best of terms, she thought it had been a successful evening and could not possibly have known that within three years he would have become one of the leaders of the anti-Meghan chorus, changing his glowing description of her from 'fabulous, warm, funny, intelligent and highly entertaining' to 'a piece of work'.”

Prince Harry’s favourite takeaway may come as a surprise – as we can all relate.

And she was spotted with the tiny puppy last week as she stepped out in Notting Hill, the Mail on Sunday reports.
Cressida carried the little dog in a grey bag which she wore across her body.
Budgie Bear’s sweet face could be seen poking out of the bag as Cressida held a protective hand over her.

8.10am update: Lady Louise could join frontline and kickstart aging Firm
Lady Louise Windsor may take on royal engagements in the future, according to an expert who noted most working royals are currently over 70s.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The Wessexes youngest daughter Lady Louise will be 18 in November.
“Her parents, who have brought up her and her brother James, Viscount Severn, in as normal a way as possible, have intimated that she will choose a career of her own and that she will not use the HRH title she is entitled to use as a child of the son of the sovereign.”
Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “With the number of working royals now fewer and most being from the older generation until George, Charlotte and Louis are able to take on royal duties, there may well be charitable ventures she may wish to support in future years and from that may follow occasional royal engagements. Interest in her activities is likely to grow as well.”
Prince William has “refused to take anymore nonsense” over the Megxit drama, amid suggestions that the Duke of Cambridge is “much tougher behind the scenes than previously thought”.
William has been “very, very firm” on pushing back against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle behind the scenes, according to a royal expert.
The Mail on Sunday's diarist Charlotte Griffiths noted that there is a “new picture emerging that William is much tougher in this situation than we previously thought”.
This comes amid an ongoing rift between the two brothers.
7.45am update: Prince Edward set to miss out on Duke title, says source
Prince Edward might miss out on the honour of inheriting the title of Duke of Edinburgh as Prince Charles is reluctant to hand it over, a source has claimed.
The Earl of Wessex, 57, is expected to inherit the title when the current holder of the title, his brother the Prince of Wales, becomes King.
However, a source close to Charles told The Times the future king is reluctant to hand over the title.
The source said: "The Prince is the Duke of Edinburgh as it stands, and it is up to him what happens to the title. It will not go to Edward."
Prince William and Prince Harry are “following their own interpretations of royal duty”, Princess Diana’s former private secretary has said.
Patrick Jephson said that the two Princes bear a "heavy burden of expectation and responsibility" as they grow older than their mother was when she died.
"For them, every new morning is one more than she was allowed," he wrote in the Daily Mail.
