Responding to one of the tweets about low-key celebrations of Eid this year, Babil shared how people judge him for his religion and that his friends have stopped speaking to him because he is
Babil said that the mandatory holiday for Eid is cancelled but that of Rakshabandhan isn’t. “Okay no problem, I will just celebrate Eid when it’s not Eid on Saturday. *most sarcastic smile ever*,” he wrote.
Further, in a series of Instagram stories, he said that he is scared of the sudden religious divide.
“I know the whole world is in a f**king frenzy but our beautiful secular India’s sudden relapse of religious divide is honestly getting scary. I have friends that have stopped communicating with me cause I’m of a certain religion. Friends I played cricket when I was 12. I miss my friends. My Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, human friends. I just miss not giving a f*ck about what surname I was born with,” he said.
“Can’t even post anything of how I feel about the people in power without my whole f**king team telling me that it might end my career. Can you believe this? I’m scared, I’m afraid, I don’t want to be. I just want to feel free again. I don’t want to be judged by my religion. I am not my religion, l am a human being, just like the rest of the population of India,” he added.
Babil also said that he anticipates that his comments would incite hate towards him and he may be termed as a jihadi or an anti-national. He went on to say that he loves India and looks forward to coming back and take rickshaw rides with his friends or have panipuri at Aksa beach.
“Don’t you dare, call me an anti-nationalist, I promise you, I’m a boxer, I will break your nose,” he further wrote.
Towards the end of the series of pictures, he also shared screenshots of his conversation with followers and the messages of support he was receiving for speaking out. He concluded, saying, “One last thing. Thank you for all of the immense love you have shown me and f*** you to all the people who want me to leave the country (well not really, if you want we can have a chat and discuss what the problem is).”
After Irrfan’s demise in April 2020, Babil has been actively sharing throwback pictures and posts about his family. In one of his recent posts, Babil, who also aspires to pursue his passion in the film industry, talked about Irrfan’s journey in
