New York new coronavirus hospitalizations have fallen to an ‘all time low’ of 154 in a day and a death toll of 58, it was announced Tuesday. Governor Andrew Cuomo released the figures ahead of the Albany and Buffalo areas heading to phase 2 of their reopening plan. New York City is set to begin phasing in economic activity June 8 after 12 weeks of brutal lockdown. However riots and looting in the city following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody had sparked concerns COVID-19 progress could face set backs. But Cuomo on Tuesday assured New Yorkers the city was ‘on track in the midst of all of this to open phase one next Monday’. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has extended an 8pm curfew until Sunday in the hopes of stopping destruction that continued overnight.
