Police remain in a Highfields street this morning following the death of a mum who was attacked in her home.
Officers are on the scene in Bartholomew Street.

Neighbour heard voice screaming, ‘My mum, my mum’
A neighbour said she heard a voice screaming, ‘My mum, my mum’.
The woman added: “I’ve known them for a long time. They were lovely people. She was a very nice person.
“I don’t understand how something like this could happen.
“It’s terrible for the whole street.
“I can’t believe what has happened. We’re shocked, everybody is shocked.”
She added: I’ve got children myself. I feel so sad, very sad.”

‘Police are trying to talk to her children’
Another neighbour said: “She was a wonderful mum.
The kids saw it happen, and police are trying to talk to them.
“I understand her family are abroad and the police are trying to trace them.”
Woman was ‘beautiful, happy mum’
Neighbours living close to the property in which the woman was fatally injured have spoken of their shock at yesterday’s tragic incident.
One said: “She was a lovely lady. She’d lived there as long as I can remember.
She was a beautiful lady, always happy, always had a smile, very happy and polite, and I’ve not got a bad word to say about her.
“It was a big shock when we heard what had happened, particularly as we understand the children were in the house at the time.”
The neighbour added: “We look after each other in this community, and that will continue.”
White-suited forensic officers are this morning going to and from an alleyway which leads to the cordoned-off house. More detectives have been seen arriving at the scene.

Murder inquiry launched
Police have launched a murder inquiry after a woman was seriously injured in a home in Bartholomew Street.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.

More officers arriving at the scene
Our reporter on the scene has reported that more officers have arrived in Highfields.
Two women and a man were carrying A4 notebooks which read ‘major incident inquiry officer notebook’ were allowed through the cordon and entered a property.
Police have still not confirmed the nature of the incident.
Area not know for violence says resident
Emergency services are still present in Bartholomew Street, Leicester, after an incident this morning.
A resident who has lived in the area for 12 years says that she has “never seen any violence” and lets her children play in the street.
Forensic investigation on the scene
There is a forensic investigation vehicle now on the scene in Bartholomew Street.
An ambulance also remains in place further down the street.
‘All of a sudden there were a lot of police everywhere’
A man who had just dropped his child off at Queen Elizabeth College and was having a coffee in a shop in Bartholomew Street said: “Shortly after 9am several police vehicles including marked and unmarked cars carrying armed officers arrived in the street.
“All of a sudden there were a lot of police everywhere and a helicopter hovering over head.
“People were gathering in the street.”
He added that he had been told of a serious domestic incident that had happened – Leicestershire Police are still yet to confirm the incident.
Residents heard air ambulance around 9am
There is still a police presence on the scene and local residents reported hearing an air ambulance shortly after 9am says our reporter on the scene Alan Thompson.
A man spoke of a ‘kid’ in St Stephens Road, at the bottom end of Bartholomew Street, shouting that there had been a domestic incident in Bartholomew Street.
A police armed response vehicle and the dog unit have just left the scene.
There are still around five police vehicles in the street as well as one ambulance.

A police presence has been spotted in Highfields, Leicester.
Two police vans and the dog unit were seen in Bartholomew Street this morning.
Leicestershire Police have been contacted for a comment in regards to the situation.
