Love Island star Lucie Donlan has claimed she never actually broke up with Joe Garratt, despite revealing that she had feelings for Tommy Fury in the villa.
The surfer, 21, has opened up on her romance with Joe, after the pair went public with their relationship shortly after the ITV2 dating show came to an end.
However, despite publicly declaring that she had feelings for co-star Tommy Fury, Lucie has claimed she and Joe had a secret romance after “privately getting to know each other” after the show.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she revealed: “We’re still going strong. “What we were doing is telling everyone we were friends because we wanted to keep the pressure off.
“We wanted to get to know each other and didn’t want everyone else knowing.
“So we got together seriously… and it shows that it’s real.”
The confession comes after Lucie claimed that producers forced her to say she had feelings for Tommy, which sparked drama with his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.
The model exclusively told OK! online “it’s a show at the end of the day,” when asked if the couple have spoken about her crush on Tommy in the villa.
Speaking on the red carpet at the TV Choice Awards, Lucie explained: “I had true feelings for Joe and hopefully everyone could see that. You’re sitting in there for so long and it was just dragging out, you’re sitting down all day.
“It’s a show at the end of the day, if no one could see that then I mean…
“I was in there for so long, you could end up fancying the slug on the wall by the end of it because you’re so bored.”
During her time in the villa, Lucie started a romance with Joe, but Tommy began to pursue her when he came on the show. She eventually chose to couple up with Joe, but he was later dumped from the island.
Tommy and Lucie continued to be friends and Tommy coupled up with Molly-Mae.
However, as she stayed in the villa and failed to find love with anyone else, Lucie repeatedly told Tommy she still had feelings for him, which caused drama between Tommy and Molly.
Even after leaving the show, Lucie said on her exit: “Me and Tommy will always be best friends.
“I’ve had best friends and then dated them and then still been best friends after. I think a lot of girls think it’s odd but I can turn things on and off really easily.
“You’ll always have a love for a best friend whether it’s a boy or a girl but at times it can mean different things.”
She added: “I want to see how things go with him and Molly-Mae, I can see he really likes her.

“I’m happy for them. I feel like we’ll see what happens on the outside and how those guys will go but never say never, if we did come to that romantic stage in a few years and me and Tommy were still friends, you never know.”
Despite the drama that unfolded on the series, Lucie and Joe have reignited their romance. Joe and Lucie, who call themselves “Jucie”, confirmed they were giving things another go after they were snapped walking hand-in-hand along a beach in Cornwall.
Islander Lucie then went public their romance by sharing a stunning photo of Joe lifting her as they embrace one another in a romantic Instagram snap.
Sharing the photo on her Instagram, Lucie captioned the photo: “#JUCIE,” with a heart and wave emoji.
Weeks after confirming their relationship, Jucie were spotted looking loved-up as they attended a River Island party together in London.
Speaking about their romance at the TV Choice Awards, Lucie said: “We’re together and it has been going really well.”
