BBC defends decision to recruit Oti Mabuse’s sister Motsi

· July 23, 2019 ·

BBC has defended its decision to hire Oti Mabuse’s sister Motsi as the new Strictly Come Dancing judge.

Motsi, who has been a judge on the German version of Strictly, will replace Darcey Bussell after she announced she would be leaving the show after six years.

However, fans of the show claimed Motsi would be “biased” when marking Oti, who appears on Strictly as a professional dancer.

Defending the decision to recruit Motsi, a BBC insider told MailOnline: “Motsi and Oti have been in this position before as judge/pro dancer on the German version of the show for multiple series – and were much loved.”

It comes amid claims that Motsi’s appointment to the show had “gone down like a lead balloon” with the cast on the show.

A source claimed to The Sun: “The pro dancers talking among themselves, saying it’s unfair and bound to cause a host of issues.

“A lot of the cast feel like they’re fighting a losing battle already. They feel Motsi will favour her sister.

“And some worry Oti will say who she is close to on the team — and Motsi will give them preferential treatment, especially the girls.”

However, the show’s professional dancers have all congratulated Motsi on her new spot on the show.

Karen Clifton tweeted: “Welcome to the family @MOTSI_MABUSE.”

Co-judge Bruno Tonioli added: “Delighted that @MOTSI_MABUSE has been announced as judge, she’s a perfect choice! @bbcstrictly.”
