On CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) warned that if any of his colleagues in Congress were involved in soliciting Gen. Michael Flynn to evade or obstruct or the Special Counsel’s investigation: “He or she should resign immediately.”
Gallego listed the reasons for stepping down to host Wolf Blitzer: “They are abdicating their duty over oversight, they’re partaking in obstruction of justice, and they’d have zero credibility in Congress.”
Earlier this week, a federal judge ordered the release of more information about the Special Counsel probe into President Donald Trump’s first pick to be National Security Adviser, Gen. Michael Flynn, who ultimately pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and then became a cooperating witness. Those documents, a result of Flynn’s cooperation, contained the bombshell revelation of possible witness tampering and obstruction from “persons connected to the Administration or Congress that could have affected both [Flynn’s] willingness to cooperate and the completeness of that cooperation.” The judge has also ordered the public disclosure, before the end of the month, of other details, including the general’s links to Russian officials, a voicemail transcript of call between Flynn’s attorneys and Trump’s personal lawyers during the transition, and a further unredacted version of the Mueller’s report relating to Flynn.
Blitzer went on to ask Gallego if he though this still-unknown person’s outreach to Flynn amounted to witness tampering.
“I would imagine so,” Gallego responded. “That’s why, if it’s a Member of Congress, that’s why Mueller didn’t get involved in filing any charges because that’s going into some very legal gray areas.”
This latest news of a possible Congressional link to Flynn’s misconduct will stoke even more interest among House Democrats who are following up on the Mueller report. “I think Michael Flynn and anyone else that they think can shed light on what was occurring in terms of obstruction of justice would be greatly appreciated. I think that will probably be happening in the future,” Gallego said.
